Agni Nakshatram also called ‘Agni Nakshatra’ refers to the period when Sun (Surya) passes through the ‘Krittika’ star. During this period of Agni Nakshatram, the onset of summer season and corresponds marks to the month of May-June in the Gregorian calendar. This period is dedicated to Lord Murugan and is celebrated as Agni Nakshatram festival.

During this period of Agni Nakshatram, special events and rituals took place in Lord Murugan Temples in South India namely Palani, Swamimalai, Tiruttani, Tiruchendur and Palamuthirsolai.
